CHALLENGE FRAP (for Crop Problems) further information and Screen Shots

FRAP is designed to be used where students have a REAL diagnostic case they are working through as a project. The program can be either installed on students' computers, or run directly from the executable file.  CHALLENGE FRAP itself is generic but the package as bundled in this website contains a pre-written electronic template (data file), which can be loaded into it.  It is this template that provides both the electronic diary and guide for the diagnostic exercise. 

The diagnostic template contains suggested actions within a diagnostic framework, and explains their significance. This explanatory text connected with each suggested action, can be replaced with studentsí own observations, as they undertake real-world tasks. Actions, locations and objects can be deleted and added at will, depending on what is actually done. The form can be reloaded, saved and shared enabling the supervising academic to add their own comments at different phases of the exercise. Eventually, the form contains a full record of the studentís diagnostic experience.

In summary then, the FRAP template serves to guide the student through the logical approach to addressing, investigating and solving a diagnostic problem while also providing a means for recording the pathway taken by the student and to document any supporting information (reference material) and evidence (photographs and information) collected during this process. It also provides a discussion / feedback tool to allow communication between the student and academic to assist with development of the case through constructive feedback and reflective comment and ultimately, served as a mechanism for assessment of the studentsí work.
